37th Summer University on Ergonomics

Human Factors, AI and Monitoring in Ergonomics and Safety

The 37th Summer University on Ergonomics will take place in Budapest, at Óbuda University, between 1–3 July 2026.

This year’s Summer University focuses on the changing role of ergonomics and human factors in the age of artificial intelligence, human monitoring, digital technologies, safety science and workplace applications.

The aim is to connect education, research and practice. The program will discuss how human-centred approaches, measurement methods, AI-supported tools and monitoring technologies can support healthier, safer and more effective work systems.

Main structure of the program

Wednesday, 1 July 2026
Education, Concepts and Emerging Directions

The first day will focus on broader professional and educational perspectives. We welcome lectures and discussions on:

  • human factors and ergonomics education,
  • AI in ergonomics and human factors,
  • Industry 5.0 and human-centred systems,
  • occupational safety and health perspectives,
  • current challenges in workplace design and prevention,
  • new roles of ergonomists, safety professionals and researchers.

This day is intended to provide a common conceptual background for the Summer University.

Thursday, 2 July 2026
Research, Measurement and Monitoring

Thursday will be dedicated to research activities, measurement technologies and human-centred monitoring.

The program will provide space for university research groups and researchers working in ergonomics, human factors, occupational safety, safety science, biomechanics, intelligent systems and related fields.

Topics may include:

  • biomechanics and human motion analysis,
  • motion tracking and movement recognition,
  • physiological and cognitive monitoring,
  • human–machine interaction,
  • robotics and human-centred control,
  • intelligent decision support,
  • AI-supported risk assessment,
  • monitoring methods in ergonomics and occupational safety,
  • research methods for understanding human performance, workload and safety.

The day will also provide an opportunity for newly established research groups at Óbuda University to present their work and explore links with ergonomics, human factors and safety science.

Friday, 3 July 2026
Applications, Best Practices and Workplace Experiences

The final day will focus on practical applications, workplace solutions and best practices.

We welcome contributions from practitioners, companies, consultants, researchers and PhD students on:

  • workplace ergonomics,
  • occupational safety applications,
  • digital tools in prevention,
  • AI-supported workplace assessment,
  • implementation experiences,
  • good practices from industry,
  • methodological demonstrations,
  • lessons learned from real workplace projects.

The purpose of this day is to connect research results and professional methods with real workplace practice.
